Australian Contemporary Art Prize

First prize $20,000 (acquisitive)

The Hutchins Australian Contemporary Art Prize is an acclaimed biennial national award dedicated to supporting excellence and innovation in contemporary art practice.

The competition is open to Australian artists at any career stage, and aims to celebrate and encourage the diverse modes of expression representative of contemporary art practice.

There are no theme, genre, substrate or subject matter preconditions. The competition is open to many modes of creative art practice across traditional and contemporary genres. *Some conditions apply - see criteria for details. 


The finalists’ exhibition runs from 9-27 June 2018 at Brooke Street Pier in Hobart


Forty seven artists will have their works selected for exhibition. Winners will be announced by Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner AC at the Awards Evening on 8 June 2018 at Brooke Street Pier. Artists will be eligible to win the $20,000 First Prize (acquisitive) and $1,000 Artery Tasmanian Artist’s Prize (materials).

The $1,000 Fullers Bookshop People's Choice and $1,000 Hutchins Staff Choice Prizes will be announced in the final week of the exhibition.
