Finalists' exhibition criteria


  1. Artworks selected for exhibition in the Hutchins Australian Contemporary Art Prize 2018 (HACAP) will be required to be delivered to The Hutchins School, 71 Nelson Road Sandy Bay Tasmania 7005 by 4.00pm (AEST) 1 June 2018.
  2. The cost of transport to and from Hobart is the responsibility of the artist. The Art Curator will suggest a recommended freight carrier to finalists.
  3. Insurance for the work during transit and at the exhibition venue will be the responsibility of the artist.
  4. Entries must be professionally presented and ready to hang with either D-rings or hanging wire attached. 
  5. Entries that are not framed or mounted will be pinned by the corners. 
  6. Each entry must be labelled on the back with the artist’s name, phone number, address, title of work, year, medium and price attached on the back. There is a template label for artists available to be printed off here.
  7. Three-dimensional entries need to be stable, safe, and able to be mounted on a plinth.
  8. Finalists’ artworks must be available for the full duration of the exhibition period i.e. 1–29 June 2018.
  9. The Hutchins School, The Hutchins Foundation and the HACAP organisers accept no liability or responsibility for any loss and/or damage whatsoever caused to a work while in their custody, or during transit and packing.
  10. Display of artworks will be at the discretion of the HACAP organising committee and Art Curator. 
  11. Entrants selected for the HACAP finalists’ exhibition consent to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of i) advertisement and promotion ii) exhibition information iii) catalogue production and iv) student study. 
  12. At the conclusion of the exhibition, all unsold works not dispatched by freight must be collected from Brooke Street Pier between 10.00am and 4.00pm (AEST) on Thursday 28 June 2018 or from The Hutchins School on Monday 2 July 2018 between 9.00am and 4.00pm (AEST). 
  13. The winner of the major $20,000 first prize and the $1,000 Artery Tasmanian Artist’s Prize will be awarded at the official opening and Awards Evening on 8 June, 2018. The $1,000 Fullers Bookshop People’s Choice and the $1,000 Hutchins Staff Choice will be awarded on 25 June, 2018 during the last week of the exhibition.
  14. Artists are encouraged to notify their representative gallery that the work has been entered in the HACAP. Due to individual and various contract arrangements between galleries and artists, HACAP will pay any monies from sales to the artist, who will then be responsible for paying their gallery if there are arrangements in place.
  15. Any works not collected within the time specified will be stored at The Hutchins School and in the absence of appropriate arrangements at the expiry of a further two months will be deemed to be the property of The Hutchins School, to be disposed of at their discretion.
